In honor of ALA Preservation Week (Apr. 24-30, 2011), I thought I’d share links to some reputable web sites on preservation:
- Preservation Dept., Library of Congress – http://www.loc.gov/preserv/;
- Preservation Dept., National Archives – http://www.archives.gov/preservation/;
- Northeast Document Conservation Center Resources – http://www.nedcc.org/resources/introduction.php.
I’d recommend these sites to anyone looking for quick reference general information on how to preserve various types of materials that might be in your collections – whether institutional or personal.
If you have specific questions, you should contact an archives professional to give you tips and advice on your particular item(s). Not sure where to find an archives professional? Try your local public or academic library. They probably have one or more archivists on staff – like me! – or can help you find one.
